Introduction

Hello, my name is Angeline Bower. I am an older student with children of my own. My oldest is in sixth grade and I have seen firsthand how technology use and expectations have changed in schools since I was in sixth grade. I think that most of my classmates are in that generation y category, where I fall at the end of the generation x. I really don’t feel like I’m behind on technology at this point in my life. However, when I consider my two younger children, that’s a far different story; they are in first and second grade and things have certainly changed since I was in first grade. When I was in first grade I had not even heard of a computer but they are able to navigate the web better than I did in my early twenties. It truly amazes me.

I think teaching technology in school is one of the most important things. It is, after all, our future. I can’t think of a career that does not have a use for technology. Technology is all around us and will continue to grow through the years. It makes research and essay writing so much easier than in the past. Imagine a day when to type a paper you had to use a typewriter. You basically had to type it perfect. Not like today on the computer where you can manipulate entire paragraphs and move words and spaces around just because it looks better this way or that way. At ForneyISD they assign a laptop to every student and teacher. That ensures that every student has the benefit of getting the most out of today’s technologies. I think that that is the future of learning. I think that schools should make technology accessible to all students.

In general, my goal for all my classes is to get A’s so that I can keep my scholarship and continue to further my education. I’m actually quite excited to be taking this class. I like technology and am definitely one that thinks technology is our friend. It makes life easier and I look forward to learning ways to implement technology into my future classroom. My life is filled with responsibilities and I intend to give it my all and continue to strive for excellence in life for the benefit of my future and my family’s future.
